Sector overview

Spinning, weaving, processing, denim and garments, through the cycle and through insolvency

The textile practice covers the full chain from spinning and weaving to processing, denim and readymade garments. The largest assignment is the valuation of Alok Industries for State Bank of India (₹10,050 crore). Others include Bombay Dyeing (₹904 crore), Garden Silk Mills on both an asset and enterprise basis for Bank of Baroda, Bombay Rayon Fashions, Spentex, Hindoostan Spinning and Weaving Mills, Kores India and Naagreeka Exports.

Because much of the sector has passed through restructuring, the team has particular depth in stressed situations: IBC valuations of Mandhana Industries (₹1,000 crore), Indus Fila, Datsun Fashions, NRC Limited and Provogue, including a brand valuation, and TEV studies for the SVG Denim and Rainbow Denim expansions and the Krishna Knitware project, where the firm also acted as Lenders’ Engineer.

Industry challenges

What lenders ask us to test in this sector

Commodity-cycle exposure in yarn and fabric margins

Yarn and fabric margins track cotton and polyester prices with a lag that can erase a year’s cash flow. We build the viability case on a price range, not a point estimate, and show where debt service breaks.

Ageing spinning and processing equipment

Ring frames, looms and processing lines lose value and efficiency with age and technology change. Our engineers record make, vintage, condition and utilisation machine by machine before assigning value or remaining life.

Stressed-asset resolution under IBC

Textile insolvencies need a realistic view of what a buyer will pay for the plant as a going concern versus in parts. We report fair value and liquidation value with the assumptions behind each.

Working-capital intensity

Inventory across the chain ties up more funding than the plant itself. TEV studies size working capital from actual conversion and collection cycles.
